22 months {Jonah}

Size: Jonah is about 30 pounds and maybe about 35 inches tall. They said he was 34 inches at his 18 month check-up, so I'm sure he's grown taller since then, but I have no clue how much! These days he's in all 18-24 month, 24m or 2T items and wearing size 6 shoes. Diapers are still a 4 daytime and 5 nighttime, but I think we may start switching him to 5s altogether when we run out of the 4s. We've actually started talking about pull-ups...eek! So not ready for that!

Teeth: He's got 16 now. You can definitely see his molars and some of his canines, but the last 2 are about halfway in at this point. Guess we just have those 2 year molars which shouldn't be for a while--thank goodness!

Motor Development: Nothing new, just more accuracy with things like kicking and throwing. My dad loves to point out that every time he throws, it's left-handed. I'm not buying it just yet, but this family wouldn't mind him being a southpaw.

Language: Forget keeping up with new words--it's too overwhelming at this point. Jonah has been using 2 and 3 word phrases to communicate more. I actually caught him the other day sitting down with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, saying random letters of the alphabet as he flipped through the pages like he was "reading"--too cute! He's very much into the alphabet and can identify several letters with very good accuracy: o, w, m, s. His counting consists of 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10 and sometimes 11.

New Things: Now that Jonah moved to the next classroom at daycare, there's been a bigger push towards potty training, which has resulted in him being a little more open to trying the potty at home. This has heightened his awareness of his diaper and he will occasionally come tell you his diaper is wet, so I guess that's a step in the right direction. With all this pottying, he's definitely become a pro at hand washing! Jonah has also become more interactive with Nolan: bringing him toys, laying on the blanket with him, talking to him, helping him roll over, trying to pick him up, etc. I guess as Nolan is developing more, Jonah is taking more of an interest in him as a potential playmate.

Jonah-isms: He's learning geography on his dinner placemat that has a world map and will always tell you where Japan is ~ Jonah identifies all the same items on the drive home from daycare: oval, bus, oval, wheel, flag--and then ask for more of any of them or for trucks ~ Loves for you to sing Old MacDonald and let him pick the animal ~ Has a favorite iPad app: Animal Sounds Game ~ J loves to pull all the pillows off the couch  and on to the floor to fall on them ~ He calls his brother "da bay-bee" or "Noley"

Toddler moments: Just as we got through the newborn phase with Nolan, Jonah has entered this "terrible twos" phase (I think they're ganging up on us)! This month we have definitely seen an increase in the tantrums, both frequency and intensity. Jonah will throw himself on the floor and cry over little things when he doesn't get his way, and has had more difficulty sharing recently. On the whole, time out still works well for him and that whole minute gives him a chance to calm down and get straight again.

Happy 22 months, Jonah!
