5 weeks old

Now that Jonah has surpassed the one month mark, here's a little synopsis of what we've experienced so far...

- Jonah has steadily been gaining weight and growing! At his 2 week appointment (although he was 2 days shy of being 3 weeks old), the pediatrician was quite impressed with his weight gain, especially since he had come so close to losing 10% in the hospital. Here are his stats so far:

12/8/10: weight: 6lbs, 14oz  height: 18.5in
12/10/10: weight: 6lbs 4oz height: 18.5in
12/13/10: weight: 6lbs 6oz (15th percentile) height: 18.75in (10th percentile)
12/27/10: weight: 7lbs 6 oz (25th percentile) height: 21in (50th percentile)

Jonah has his next appointment at 2 months. so we'll be able to see how much he has grown then! He will also start his immunizations at that visit.

- From a health standpoint, Jonah has received a clean bill every time (and we hope that continues)! Minor issues we have dealt with up to this point include cradle cap, a watery left eye, hiccups, diaper rash, deferred on hearing in his right ear when tested at 2 days old in hospital (pediatrician said it's nothing to worry about and false positives happen all the time... he seems to respond well to noises) and some minor hair loss! In the grand scheme of things, those are all such little things and nothing to worry about so we are thankful for his great state of health up to this point.

- Developmentally, he is tracking objects with his eyes, has started cooing, flashed a few smiles at us, and is getting really good head control! He really doesn't like tummy time, but will tolerate it in small bouts. Most of his head control work comes from hanging out over our shoulder - he will steady his head and look around really well there. I would say that he is a very curious baby and loves to stare at things - anything! Recently he has started cooing at people and objects (when he is on the changing table in our bedroom, he loves to talk to the curtains - go figure).

Here's a little taste of 'tummy time' theses days. Watch out for the surprise ending! :)

- Jonah has started taking a bottle and a pacifier quite well. I was afraid he would have difficulty with the transition, but really has done extremely well with it. Sometimes he will even help!

Oh, and he found his thumb... :)

It has snowed here in metro Atlanta 3 times since he has been born... and stuck to the ground every time. Our most recent snowfall was the biggest so we took him out to play in it! (as much as a 4 week old can play in it...)

So there's a little glimpse into what Jonah has been up to since he came home. Sorry for the delay in posting, I'm a little busy these days! :)
